On May 2, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Stephen M. Haykin and Minister of Education and Science Dimitri Shashkin congratulated the winners of Georgia’s first annual Microsoft Imagine Cup student technology competition. The worldwide competition is supported in part by USAID’s Economic Prosperity Initiative (EPI), which assists public and private actors to boost growth and employment in certain sectors of the Georgian economy, including the information and communications technologies (ICT) sector.

Eligible student entrants addressed the theme: Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems. Winning teams proposed innovative technological solutions to help solve Georgia’s challenges in the areas of solid waste management and maternal health. The first place team will attend the international finals in Australia in July 2012 with USAID support.
