USAID informs Georgia IDPs about Health Insurance Options and Mediation Services

USAID and the Health Insurance Mediation Service in Georgia (HIMS), a private nongovernmental organization affiliated with the Georgian Insurance Association, are working to educate internally displaced persons (IDPs) about their health insurance eligibility options and the mediation service provided by the program. As part of the initiative, USAID and HIMS staff recently visited the Skra IDP settlement, a new durable housing settlement with approximately 300 individuals (nearly one-third are children) near Gori.  HIMS is helping IDPs better manage their healthcare by informing them of their insurance benefits, helping them find information regarding their specific insurer or policy and receive healthcare services, and providing mediation services between IDPs and insurance companies should any problems occur.
