USAID to Ease Transition and Reintegration of Internally Displaced Persons
TSEROVANI, Georgia - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is proud to announce support for the opening of four businesses in the new settlement of Tserovani. Jock Conly, Mission Director for USAID/Caucasus will participate in ceremony marking the opening of these businesses on October 28, 2009 at 2:30 at the Tserovani Bread Bakery. The four businesses received grants from USAID's Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Support Project. USAID provided $180,000 in start-up funding for businesses that will provide employment opportunities and essential goods and services to the residents of Tserovani. The four businesses are: The Tserovani Bread Bakery, which can produce up to 15,000 loaves of bread per day. - Kheoba Chicken, a poultry farm that can breed about 3,000 chickens per 40-day cycle.
- Tersovani Service Center, which will provide general repair and maintenance services for residents.
- The Cement Tile Micro Enterprise, which can make up to 100 square meters of standard and decorative tiles per day.
All four of the businesses have started operations. The projects employed 41 Tserovani residents during construction, and will employ over 50 residents once they are fully operational.
